YR 1 ASSESSMENT WEEK 2, TASK 1 DIGITAL SKILLS - STUDIO AKA

ARTIST RESEARCH

Studio AKA

'Pill Pockets' is an animation created for Greenies, a company that creates dog treats that can hide any medicine pills so the dog won't notice it. The animation is straight forward and very formal about their product, I think this is the right mind set as their isn't any reason for comedic value or the atmosphere to suddenly change, this animation consists of narration that gives clear instructions ad mentions the benefits of the pill pocket.

The production method of this animation is 2D animation, it seems quite basic and the frames aren't as smooth as I thought they would be, this makes me think each frame was created digitally and then pieced together, with the narration added to the animation. The art style is quite simple, their isn't much linework and they use the shading to help divide the colours and shapes. I think this is a great idea to have quite simple artwork so it doesn't distract the audience from the purpose of the animation which is to talk abut their product.

The second example of Studio AKA's work is an animation called 'A Yogurt Of Substance' that was created for Danone and their newest product called 'Danio'. I really like this animation as it is quite cartoonish with the style of the characters and how they constantly run around throughout the animation, I think this example consists of both 2D animation, the use of mixed media and live action therefore the breakdown of the production method seems quite simple. I think they filmed the live action, added the collage elements and separately add the animated frames individually to create a successful animation. I really like the art style and how the multiple ways elements and media work together to create a funny, bright, bold and also informative animation about the new brand of yogurt.

The final example of work created by Studio AKA is an animation that is called 'Winter Is Coming' which is to raise awareness and promote the upcoming Winter Olympics on the BBC. As soon as I watched this animation it reminded me of a piece of work that I have researched previously called 'Between Bears'. The animation shows a mysterious character walking through this snow filled forest and suddenly attempts to get from one place to another using means of transport that represent the Winter Olympics, such as snowboarding, skiing curling. The mood of the animation is quite dark and sinister, this is because of the colour and how the animation is monochromatic and how the atmosphere adds more suspense with the use of lighting and creating shadows that contrast between the white and black elements.

I'm not quite use about the production and how this has been made, it seems quite technical will the many elements and textures but I believe it consists of both 3D and 2D elements that work together to create this great animation.
