Hornet Inc
The first example of Hornet Inc's work is an animation created for the Belgian National Lottery, it is about a snowman who's dream finally comes true and what depicts the transformative potential of the lottery. The animation itself looks very interesting, obviously the environment an theme is also Christmas. The style of which is similar to claymation but also closer to stop motion animation. The material that is use for the characters, elements and environment seem to be some sort foam like material. This may have been altered digitally when assembling the animation to add effects and create textures on the characters. Along with model characters and props I think the animation was created in Cinema 4D.
The second example that was created my Hornet is a short film called 'Chit Chat Roulette'. The reason I chose this film to use as an example is cause it is a surreal mixture of stop motion, puppetry and live-action showing a succession of strangers connected by webcams across a colorful world of handmade characters created from paper, clay and fabrics. The production of this short film is very interesting in how they created each element with a different style of animating, I imagine all the live action scenes would of been filmed individually and separately from the stop motion and puppetry, and once each element is ready they are them placed together with added effects to create facial expressions and to have the background sounds and audio added to complete the short film. With this example their wasn't any use of mood, pace or lighting effects to help change or intensify the atmosphere.
The last example is one of my favorite animations, 'Between Bears' the reason for choosing this to be the last example of the work crated by Hornet is because of the style and atmosphere throughout the animation. The film maintains the same art style which is having each 2D elements consist of only straight lines, I like this style but it wouldn't work for animations that consist on showing detail, with this animation the story and atmosphere make up for the visuals being simplistic. But having the design be simple, the atmosphere and mood that is created by the lighting effects and the sound add effect to the animation.
The story is bizarre and very peculiar but in my eyes i think the animation itself is about a bear that shaves off all its fur, essentially making itself different from the rest which causes a scenario where people come from all over the world to see what has happened, when met with the bear he has a confrontation with himself and realises he has to keep his fur.
